#47 - THE NEW EPIDEMIC - ADRENAL FATIGUE

  • Do you experience 3 or more of the following:

      Mild depression

      Lethargy

      Muscle weakness/fatigue

      Increased apathy, lack of motivation

      Fatigue, esp on waking and between 2-4pm

      Decreased libido

      Craving foods high in salt and fat
    • You may be suffering from Adrenal Fatigue, which is often overlooked or misdiagnosed.
    • Besides the above signs and symptoms, it would be wise to have a salivary hormone test to assess levels of cortisol, DHEAs, progesterone, testosterone and oestrogens. This can be easily organised through your Naturopath.
    • Lifestyle and Diet are the primary tools I use to restore adrenal function - regular meals and snacks, avoiding fruit in the morning, adding sea salt to food, avoiding caffeine, alcohol and all white processed carbs, regular but gentle exercise, meditation, deep breathing exercises, massage etc.
    • Herbal Medicines and Nutrient supplementation support the Dietary and Lifestyle changes taking place. Some of my favourites are Withania, Licorice, Rhodiola, Siberian Ginseng and Schisandra. Vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, potassium and the B complex vitamins may be useful also, but a tailored program to the individual is essential. Most patients do not require ALL of these at once.
    • Don't let your Adrenals deplete you to the point of extreme fatigue and compromised mental health - they can recover, but allow 8-12 weeks for the "new" you to emerge!
